Couple of Cool Tips for Google Desktop

September 5, 2005 by: Lyle

Couple of things I’ve tried with Google Desktop:

When it comes to photos, I’m always looking for cool things, and I like architecture; so I pointed the photos section to Flickr with an architecture tag. You could do this with any tag you want.

I also brought in the geotagged tag. That led me to geobloggers, and so on, and so on….

Ultimately it’s all about staying up, in touch, and enjoying what everybody is sharing.

What if you could do this with layers on a map? Is there a map feed somewhere that publishes map images? something like tagged google maps. Hmmm…

Another one to try is pointing web clips at the rss feeds you normally hit. I already use newsgator for that; and you really need a larger format aggregator for large amounts of posts (the kind you might get if you utilize a search type subscription). But Desktop’s small screen would work well for those feeds that do not increase too rapidly, say something like del.icio.us.

It works pretty well. And the thing I like about del.icio.us is the other real people on the other end of the feed.
